About this video
Executing a twisting half guard pass with neck control involves several key steps to maintain pressure and control:
- Start in half guard and walk your hip over your opponent's body, preparing to pass.
- Instead of walking back, take a big step up and drive your knee to the mat, flipping your opponent's hips to the far side.
- Transfer your body weight behind your shoulder and tuck your other foot as if you were already in the mount position, placing your head on the mat.
- Use the corner of your elbow or hand to push your opponent's knee down, making it easier for your knee to slide over for the pass.
- Ensure your knee is heavy and passes above your opponent's elbow or hand to prevent them from framing.
- Switch the arm that was controlling the head to the other side, using it to apply a deep twist to your opponent's spine, which helps unlock their legs.
- In No-Gi, make a grip on your opponent's neck with four fingers and drag their head far to the side while rolling your shoulder down to the floor to pass to mount.
- Maintain alignment and keep low to avoid sliding forward as you elevate your elbow to lift your opponent's head and switch grips.
- Drag your opponent's head to the side and roll your shoulder through their chin to free your foot and complete the pass.
Throughout the technique, focus on keeping your opponent uncomfortable by deeply twisting their spine, which limits their movement and ability to defend.
