About this video
Executing a jumping leg drag pass from the half butterfly guard involves several key steps:
- Start by fighting through the hands to step up into the half butterfly guard, securing an underhook and control of the opponent's leg, driving their shoulders to the mat.
- If facing a taller opponent with long legs, or if you find yourself stuck low and unable to maintain top position, prepare to execute the rescue move.
- When you feel you are losing the position, or if the opponent attempts to create an X-Guard on your engaged leg, don't hesitate to jump to the other side.
- Perform the jump by swinging your leg high and falling to the opposite side of the opponent's body, maintaining the grip and the underhook throughout the transition.
- If you enter the position with your head stuck low on the mat, kick high and land on the far side of the opponent's body.
- To avoid introducing too much space and allowing the opponent to recover, aim to land directly into a leg drag position instead of side control.
- After landing in the leg drag, keep your head tight and advance, deciding whether to pass with the underhook or by hugging the head and completing the guard pass.
