About this video
From the half butterfly position with a good underhook and tripod base, when unable to kick off the hook or walk to pass due to the opponent's knee positioning or extension, use the shin and knee to pass.
- Attempt to walk and kick off the opponent's hook, but if unsuccessful, prepare to use the shin instead of the hip to pass.
- Swing the leg and chamber the knee towards the opponent's armpit, placing the shin in front to create a hook on the outside of their far leg.
- Maintain a grip on the bottom knee and use the shin to apply pressure, pulling and rotating the knee over to transition into the mount position.
- If the initial attempts to kick off the hook and fold with the hip are ineffective, kick hard and chamber the knee far, turning the shin down and across the opponent's shins.
- Keep a strong grip above the opponent's knee, push the shin down to lock their knees and hips, and protect against their bump and hip escape.
- Drive weight into the opponent's shoulder, open the knee, and drop into the mount with hooks already established to defend against possible bridges to either side.
