About this video
Passing the half butterfly guard when the opponent sits up:
- As the opponent sits up, create a body lock by connecting your hands in the middle of their back, pulling their hips towards you, and driving your head forward.
- Bring your knees tight to trap the opponent's feet and heels to their hips, keeping everything tight.
- Kick your opposite leg out to control the opponent's ankle and advance your knee line past the opponent's knee line.
- Shuck the opponent's leg through to prevent them from regaining guard and advance your body to their shoulders.
Passing when the opponent pummels for an underhook:
- Use the opponent's underhook to your advantage by sagging your armpit heavy on their arm, crimping their elbow to their body, and finding the same body lock.
- Pass in the direction given by the underhook, either by performing the same pass as before or by skipping steps if the opponent has no arm to push against your knee.
- Take a big step to beat the opponent's knee line, switch your head to the other side, and run their hip over as your ankle beats their knee line to achieve mount.
Dealing with the opponent's double underhooks:
- If the opponent gets double underhooks, position your head inside theirs to protect your hips.
- Drop your armpits heavy to bring their elbows close to their body, securing everything tight.
- Choose your passing method, as the opponent has no arms to stop your legs from advancing. You can use any of the previous options or simply drop your hip and walk around to pass.
