About this video

When facing a shin-to-shin guard, it's crucial to prevent the opponent from taking the weight off the entangled leg to avoid being swept into X-Guard or similar positions. To counter this:

  1. Shift your weight towards the side of the body opposite to the shin-to-shin contact to maintain balance.
  2. Upon landing in the shin-to-shin position, with the opponent's hook still in place, reach down and unhook your foot.
  3. If possible, push the opponent's foot through and stretch your leg to return to a previous passing sequence.
  4. If the opponent maintains a tight grip on your knee, keep your arm free and seek upper body control.
  5. Apply heavy pressure, step up, and attempt to kick your leg off the hook while turning your knee inwards.
  6. If the hook remains, chamber your knee upwards and circle your foot inside to block the opponent's hip.
  7. Stretch the opponent's leg out and away with your hook on their instep, and transition to the mount position.

Throughout this process, maintain upper body control and adapt to the opponent's reactions to secure the mount.
