About this video
Executing the Half Butterfly Folding Pass involves maintaining control over the opponent's bottom leg and shoulders, with the head positioned next to the opponent's head while they have a butterfly hook in place. To counter the hook's effectiveness:
- Attempt to kick off the opponent's hook. If the opponent keeps their knee tight and releases the hook, continue the pass. If they follow with the hook, their knee will drift outward.
- Progress by climbing the side of the opponent's leg with each step, turning the hip to shuck the opponent's knee past the center line.
- Bring the knee in to split the opponent's legs and gain control of their arm.
- Advance the posted leg's thigh past the opponent's knee line towards their armpit.
- Allow the toes to replace the posted knee and tuck underneath the opponent's leg in anticipation of their next move.
- Prepare for the opponent's bridge as you step to mount by anchoring with the toes and securing an underhook to prevent being off-balanced.
- Continue to walk and kick off the opponent's hook, stepping each time until the opponent's hip is broken to the outside.
- Split the legs with your knee, secure the arm, tuck the toes in preparation for the opponent's bridge, anchor yourself, and transition to the corner mount position.
