About this video

Passing the butterfly guard when the opponent is on their back involves several key steps to maintain control and advance position:

  1. Start by keeping the opponent on their back and walking in the hook to push their knee out and lower it past the knee line.
  2. Advance the underhook and hook, but be prepared for the opponent's hook to potentially pop out due to their strength, flexibility, or slipperiness.
  3. If the opponent's hook pops out, transition immediately into a previous pass by rolling the hip towards the floor, tapping, and pulling the knee out.
  4. Use the hook to prevent the opponent's bump and maintain a hand for base, keeping the head tight and shoulder down.
  5. Slide the knee forward to advance the position. If possible, switch from a pointed toe to a flexed foot to hold the opponent's leg open for a mount.
  6. If the opponent manages to kick their leg straight and hold your foot, control an overhook on their arm, ensuring your shoulder is in position beneath their chin and your shoulder line is over theirs.
  7. Pass the knee through the hole created by the opponent's stretched leg to complete the pass.

Throughout the pass, maintain tight control and adjust your base as needed to counter the opponent's movements and secure the mount position.
