About this video
Preventing the One Leg X involves a series of positional adjustments and grips to maintain control and prevent the opponent from entangling your legs. When the opponent pushes your face away from a butterfly position and attempts to enter One Leg X:
- Stand up with hips engaged forward and inner ankles pressing towards the mat to lock in your position, keeping your feet far from the opponent to make it difficult for them to reach and grab.
- If the opponent tries to delete your leg to drag you forward, follow the movement with your knee, turning it in to block their leg from circling and wrapping.
- Use the blocking knee as a placeholder for your other foot to step out, then drop your hip into the leg split position.
- For upper body control, if shoulder pressure or arm control is not available, grab the tag behind the gi and the lapel, back up, and use your head to apply pressure instead.
- On the opposite side, pull the opponent towards you, bending them around your head. Without an extra arm to pull the opponent's leg, use your foot to hook behind their ankle and drag it forward.
- From this position, you can circle to the back or advance your inside knee over their thigh, transitioning into side control.
- This head control grip works in conjunction with hip and knee positioning for a variety of passes, including knee cutting, leg splitting, and leg weaves.
- When the opponent pushes you away, follow them up, slide your leg back to block when they attempt to delete your leg, and then transition to head control when shoulder control is not possible.
- Make a grip on the gi, stay tight, and use your head to dig and open their guard. Circle out their leg, stretching it long, and bring your knee in to secure the position.
