About this video
Entering the backside 50/50 position begins with establishing a knee-to-knee connection to control the opponent's movement. Transitioning to the hip, place a foot on the inside of the opponent's hip to prepare for the X-Guard.
- Ensure your elbow is inside your knee to secure the position, allowing one hand to remain free while keeping the other hand locked.
- Pull the opponent down to break their posture, and prevent them from running away by making two points of connection on their leg: grip the calf and the ankle.
- By grabbing the calf and ankle, you maintain a strong connection even if the opponent attempts to escape by running away or pushing down on your hooks.
- Once the grips are established, you can transition to attacking by chopping your leg through to hook the far hip, which can be done by either weaving the leg through or placing the other foot on the floor to lift your hips.
- Focus on the entry and passing the foot across to the topside, ensuring proper positioning and preventing the opponent from darting away.
These details help refine the X-Guard entry and maintain control, setting up for subsequent attacks.
