About this video

Escaping the 50/50 guard by standing involves a specific sequence to prevent the opponent from gaining advantageous positions or attacking during the escape. The following steps outline the process:

  1. Start with feet locked to prevent heel exposure and scoop both of the opponent's legs to control them.
  2. Deepen the placement of your foot on the inside and shallow your knee line by turning your foot, which helps in preventing the opponent from inverting underneath you.
  3. As you begin to stand, keep your hips close and maintain the scoop on the opponent's legs to block their hooks from weaving through.
  4. Work your way up to a standing position, ensuring your heel passes beyond the opponent's elbow to secure a safe posture.
  5. Once standing, you can pass the opponent's legs across to the front, allowing you to high step out and escape or throw the legs by for passing.
  6. Control of the two legs is crucial as you stand to prevent the opponent from inverting or reattacking.
  7. By following this method, you can safely stand up from the 50/50 guard, positioning yourself to pass or initiate other offensive movements.
