About this video
Executing the Aoki Lock from the 50/50 position begins with identifying the straight line from the opponent's heel to their hip. If the opponent attempts to hide their heel behind your back, ensure their knee is outside this line, exposing their foot for the submission.
- Reach in and lift the opponent's heel off the floor.
- Stuff the foot high into your armpit, aiming to catch the big toe in the crook of your tricep and lat area.
- Dip your elbow towards your hip while pushing the opponent's shin out to prevent them from defending by realigning their knee.
- Keep the shin turned out to create a frame, making it difficult for the opponent to apply weight and turn their shin in.
- For the finish, concentrate on dipping your elbow and pulling the toe back, similar to a heel hook.
- Ensure the grip is maintained at the shin to prevent the opponent from turning their knee.
- If the opponent starts to defend by realigning their knee, maintain control with an ankle lock grip and cover the toes to prevent them from reconnecting their feet.
- From there, you can either finish with the Aoki Lock by keeping the heel exposed on your ribs and applying pressure or transition to separating their feet and attacking from a new angle.
