About this video
Transitioning to the back from De La Riva guard:
- Begin by stripping the opponent's grip on your collar. Make a pocket grip, look up, and break their grip while posturing up.
- Control the opponent's pants with your left hand in the middle and your right hand on the middle of the other side.
- Work to remove the De La Riva hook by either pushing it down or straightening your leg and applying pressure to free your leg.
- Once the hook is out, prepare to pass the guard by turning your foot slightly to the side and pulling your ankle out from their grip.
- Start passing to the left side. If the opponent turns to defend, instead of continuing to the same side, jump to the opposite side, which they won't expect.
- As the opponent turns, punch your knee to the mat and use your hand on the floor to jump over their head, landing in side control.
- If the opponent turtles, maintain your grip on the pants and transition to the truck position.
- Insert your right knee in the middle and your left knee inside, pulling the opponent back using the grip on their pants.
- Execute the truck position details: kick their leg, bring your other leg in, and hook their shin.
- Once the hook is secured, adjust your position to climb up, pull your hook in, and secure the back with a seat belt grip.
This sequence allows for a dynamic transition to the back, utilizing grips and momentum to outmaneuver the opponent's defenses.
