About this video
Executing a back take or submission from Deep Half Guard involves several critical details to prevent the opponent from escaping. When the opponent enters Deep Half Guard, immediately sit into them and slide the knee under their back as much as possible, creating a pillow for their head. This positioning is crucial for setting up the choke.
- As the opponent gets into Deep Half Guard, create a pillow with your knee for their head to rest on, making it comfortable for them.
- Reach for the lapel to set up the bow and arrow choke, ensuring the grip is similar to the standard execution of the choke.
- Fall back to finish the choke, but avoid falling to the side as this can create space for the opponent to escape. Instead, fall straight back.
- Keep the leg that is under the opponent's back pinched up at all times to prevent their head from slipping out.
- If unable to secure the lapel grip, grab the opponent's knee instead. The same principle applies: fall straight back and finish the choke.
- In cases where the opponent is resilient, continue to adjust by escaping the leg, throwing it over, and pulling them into the same choking position.
- Ensure that the opponent's head is trapped by falling straight back rather than to the side, making it difficult for them to escape the choke.
This technique emphasizes the importance of leg positioning and the direction in which you fall back to effectively secure the choke and prevent the opponent from slipping their head out.
