About this video

When attempting a bow and arrow choke, if the opponent slips their head out, it's crucial to react immediately to retain back control. Follow these steps:

  1. As you go for the lapel and the opponent begins to slip their head out, prepare to transition.
  2. The leg that was behind the opponent's head should now swing over and hook underneath their leg.
  3. Push with your hands to bring your hips closer to the opponent's hips.
  4. Begin to turn your body towards the opponent while kicking your legs across to the other side.
  5. Use your hands on the mat for support if necessary during the transition.
  6. Continue to kick your legs until you have maneuvered to the opponent's back.
  7. Adjust your position by placing a hand on the opponent's hip and the other on their shoulder, pushing your body up.
  8. Secure the back control again with the seatbelt grip.

This technique is both a drill and a practical movement to ensure you don't lose a dominant position when an opponent defends against a choke.
