About this video
When attempting a bow and arrow choke, if the opponent slips their head out, it's crucial to react immediately to retain back control. Follow these steps:
- As you go for the lapel and the opponent begins to slip their head out, prepare to transition.
- The leg that was behind the opponent's head should now swing over and hook underneath their leg.
- Push with your hands to bring your hips closer to the opponent's hips.
- Begin to turn your body towards the opponent while kicking your legs across to the other side.
- Use your hands on the mat for support if necessary during the transition.
- Continue to kick your legs until you have maneuvered to the opponent's back.
- Adjust your position by placing a hand on the opponent's hip and the other on their shoulder, pushing your body up.
- Secure the back control again with the seatbelt grip.
This technique is both a drill and a practical movement to ensure you don't lose a dominant position when an opponent defends against a choke.
