About this video
Executing a traditional back take from the turtle position involves several key steps:
- Start with the same grips as in side control and pull the opponent to your side to initiate the back take.
- Ensure your left knee slides in between the opponent's elbow and knee to create space for the maneuver.
- If the opponent blocks the space for your knee, consider transitioning to a truck position or switch to the other side.
- Once you have the grip and space, pull the opponent in and insert your knee.
- Begin to fall to your side, placing all your weight on the opponent's left shoulder and neck, forcing them to bend the neck.
- Continue pulling until the opponent falls to the side.
- Pinch your knees together and work to escape your bottom hook out.
- If the opponent manages to push your top hook down and starts escaping, do not fight it.
- Instead, come up and push the opponent, working to get your leg past their head.
- Fall back and secure the back take, adjusting as necessary if the opponent defends against one of your hooks.
Remember, if the opponent defends by pushing down your top hook, transition back to the original position and adjust to complete the back take.
