Inspired by his cousin Eduardo Toledo — an accomplished black belt in his own right — Toledo stepped onto the mats with a personal investment that few competitors share. That family connection gave his development a sense of purpose and continuity that would anchor his career from the earliest stages.

The bulk of his formative training unfolded under Erivaldo Junior at the Liga Jiu Jitsu academy, where Toledo forged the technical foundation that would carry him to elite international competition. It was there that he trained alongside two figures who would become central to the next chapter of his career: Claudio Calasans and David Lemes.

In late 2008, Erivaldo Junior awarded Toledo his black belt — a milestone that coincided with a pivotal shift in his competitive environment. Shortly after, Claudio Calasans founded the Calasans Camargo BJJ Team, and Toledo, alongside Eduardo Toledo and David Lemes, made the move with him. The decision reflected both loyalty to his training partners and a clear commitment to competing at the highest level within a structured, ambitious team environment.

Vitor Toledo competes in the Meio Pesado division (88kg/194lbs), and his nickname — 'Gigante' — reflects the physical presence he brings to the mat. But it is his technical precision, not size alone, that defines his reputation as a competitor.

At brown belt, he continued to perform on the biggest stages, earning a CBJJ Brazilian National silver medal in 2007 and an IBJJF World Championship silver medal in 2008 — the same year Erivaldo Junior promoted him to black belt.

Black Belt Titles and Continental Success

The black belt years brought Toledo's most significant results. In 2010, he captured the CBJJE Brazilian National Championship and the IBJJF South American Championship, establishing himself as a dominant force in the Meio Pesado division on both domestic and continental stages. That same year, he added an IBJJF European Open bronze medal, demonstrating his ability to perform consistently across different competitive environments.

Sustained International Presence

Toledo maintained his place among the world's elite competitors in the years that followed. In 2011, he earned a South American Championship bronze medal, and in 2012 he posted back-to-back silver medal finishes at the Pan American Championship and the World Pro Cup — results that reaffirmed his standing in the top tier of the Meio Pesado division.
