Claudio Calasans was born on October 11, 1983, in São José dos Campos, Brazil, into a family deeply immersed in judo tradition. Influenced by his family's martial arts heritage, Claudio began training judo at the age of three. At fifteen, he expanded his grappling repertoire by taking up Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, strategically enhancing his groundwork and laying the foundation for his future competitive success.

Calasans developed his Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu skills at Liga Jiu-Jitsu, progressing methodically from blue belt to black belt under the mentorship of Erivaldo Junior. He earned his black belt in 2006, marking a significant milestone in his grappling journey. After joining Atos Jiu-Jitsu, Claudio transitioned to the middleweight division, implementing a rigorous strength and conditioning regimen that further sharpened his competitive edge.

Widely recognized for his mastery of wrist-lock submissions, Claudio Calasans leverages his extensive judo background to execute precise and effective joint attacks. His tactical use of wrist-lock techniques enables him to neutralize larger and physically stronger opponents, earning him a reputation as one of the premier wrist-lock specialists in competitive grappling.

Calasans has shifted his primary focus toward coaching, co-leading the Calasans BJJ team and mentoring emerging talents such as Alexandre de Jesus. Under Claudio's guidance, his students have achieved significant victories, including titles at the South American and World No-Gi Championships. At his family-run academy, Calasans Camargo in São José dos Campos, Claudio integrates world-class training methodologies from his affiliation with Atos Jiu-Jitsu alongside local traditions, fostering a unique and effective training environment.

Calasans remains active in masters-level competitions, consistently securing titles on the Abu Dhabi circuit. He regularly competes in multiple AJP Masters tournaments up to 2024, demonstrating his enduring technical proficiency and unwavering dedication to the sport.
