About this video

Step over back take technique using different legwork to maintain control and secure the back:

  1. Use the hook to keep the opponent's hip off the mat, especially when trying to maintain a stack and the opponent's back is at risk of being lost.
  2. Utilize the prop leg to lift the opponent, then remove the arm as if looking for a leg drag, placing the knee over the opponent's leg.
  3. Switch the hook by moving from controlling the opponent's knee to dropping the other foot into the space created, keeping the knee on the outside.
  4. As you fall underneath the opponent, maintain a sticky hook and start to close the knee to bring the opponent's hip onto you.
  5. Begin to hustle towards the back, climbing your way to the shoulders as they become exposed, to chase the back control.
  6. While stacking the opponent, if having trouble finishing, use the prop leg to continue the motion.
  7. Place the knee on top of the opponent's leg, pass the other arm across, and slide the foot through, aiming to cover the opponent's back with your body.
  8. As the foot goes through, work to get behind the opponent, secure a seatbelt grip, set the hooks, and establish back control.
