About this video
Step over back take technique using different legwork to maintain control and secure the back:
- Use the hook to keep the opponent's hip off the mat, especially when trying to maintain a stack and the opponent's back is at risk of being lost.
- Utilize the prop leg to lift the opponent, then remove the arm as if looking for a leg drag, placing the knee over the opponent's leg.
- Switch the hook by moving from controlling the opponent's knee to dropping the other foot into the space created, keeping the knee on the outside.
- As you fall underneath the opponent, maintain a sticky hook and start to close the knee to bring the opponent's hip onto you.
- Begin to hustle towards the back, climbing your way to the shoulders as they become exposed, to chase the back control.
- While stacking the opponent, if having trouble finishing, use the prop leg to continue the motion.
- Place the knee on top of the opponent's leg, pass the other arm across, and slide the foot through, aiming to cover the opponent's back with your body.
- As the foot goes through, work to get behind the opponent, secure a seatbelt grip, set the hooks, and establish back control.
