About this video
Executing a back step pass from the Reverse De La Riva position involves several key steps:
- Monitor and control the opponent's leg to prevent them from spinning to the outside, maintaining distance.
- Shift your weight back and away to disengage their hook, circling your foot over to enter the stack position.
- If the opponent holds onto your foot, you can still proceed by stacking and placing your knee over their leg, setting up a potential leg drag.
- For flexible opponents comfortable with being stacked, pummel one arm across their body and change your angle while maintaining pressure with your knee.
- Pummel your other arm back inside to secure a body lock on the opponent's hip.
- Pull the opponent's body towards you, back step, and release your hook to complete the pass.
- This technique is effective against inversions and can be applied to opponents who are almost in an inverted guard position.
- When disengaging the opponent's foot, press your knee against theirs and sneak your foot inside as you bring your weight back.
- If the opponent insists on holding your foot, you can still pass through, or they may release the grip, making it easier to stack and pass.
- Use your shin to cover the opponent's leg and prop them up, then hug with one arm and sneak the second arm through to pull yourself close to their body.
- By focusing on the near side, you can exploit the opponent's preoccupation with defending against a leg drag or roll to the far side, allowing you to pass to the near side.
