About this video
Transitioning from Reverse De La Riva to a Half Stack and executing a Folding Pass:
- Start in Reverse De La Riva, preventing the opponent from inverting and getting underneath.
- Pummel the arm inside and secure a shallow grip on the gi, using the other hand to lift the opponent's knee and pull them in.
- Force the opponent's knee across while driving forward to achieve a nearside underhook.
- If the opponent kicks hard and the grip becomes disadvantageous, release it and step over to cover their legs with your hips and belly.
- Maintain a frog-footed position, with the back arm blocking the hip and the front arm preventing the knees from coming through.
- If the opponent tries to frame or invert, fill the space with your back knee while keeping your foot behind their knee.
- Once the threat of inversion is neutralized, release the foot to increase pressure.
- Choose to either hug the head or pick up the arm, then move the outside knee to the opponent's armpit, switching your head to the other side to make space.
- Tuck your toes under the opponent's bottom leg and step forward to anticipate a bridge.
- From the Reverse De La Riva, apply pressure to lock the hook in place, pummel inside, and convince the opponent's knee to come across as you drive your weight in for the underhook.
- Upon feeling pushed away, release the grip, step over, and fill the space with your back leg.
- Be prepared to pass to the mount or behind the legs, depending on the opponent's reaction.
- Connect your hands with an underhook and overhook, switch your head to the other side, and bring your knee into the opponent's armpit.
- Tuck your toes under the bottom leg, step up, hide your feet, and be ready to counter the opponent's bridge.
This technique offers the option to pass to the mount or behind the legs, utilizing the advantages of Half Guard passing and the ability to threaten the mount.
