Her father, Fábio Clemente, stands as one of the city's jiu-jitsu pioneers, and Vedha, alongside her brother Zata, grew up fully immersed in that world — logging countless hours on the mats and even living inside the academy during stretches of their childhood. From the earliest years, the rhythm of training, drilling, and rolling was simply part of daily existence.

Despite that intimate exposure, the sport did not immediately capture Vedha's competitive ambition. She gravitated instead toward volleyball and capoeira as her primary athletic outlets. The family environment, while deeply rooted in sport and strongly encouraging of an active lifestyle, never imposed BJJ on Vedha or steered her toward tournament competition. That freedom proved significant — when she eventually returned to the gi, the decision was entirely her own.

The turning point arrived during her mid-teens. Watching Fábio Clemente and Zata compete and claim victories at the international level sparked something within her. Witnessing her father and brother perform on the sport's biggest stages proved to be the catalyst that drew Vedha back to the mats with genuine purpose and competitive intent.

Returning to jiu-jitsu as a teenager, Vedha Toscano revealed herself to be a natural guard player — a technical identity that would come to define her competitive approach at every level of the sport. All the while, she pursued a bachelor's degree in psychology at Hunter College in New York City, completing her studies even as her results on the mat continued to climb.
