By age 15, Swanson had redirected her focus entirely to Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, beginning her BJJ education at Best Way Jiu Jitsu in Connecticut. The transition proved pivotal, giving her competitive drive and natural athleticism a new outlet. Alongside her athletic growth, Swanson pursued her academic ambitions at the University of Bridgeport, graduating in 2018 with a Bachelor's degree in International Political Economy and Diplomacy. Her studies also took her abroad to South Korea as part of an East Asian Studies program — an experience that would intersect meaningfully with her jiu-jitsu journey.

Swanson's competitive evolution accelerated when she transitioned from Best Way Jiu Jitsu to Soul Fighters, coming under the guidance of Rafael Barbosa, widely known as "Formiga." The move placed her within one of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu's most competitive team environments and connected her to a coach whose technical depth and championship pedigree proved instrumental in shaping her game.
