Kaynan Duarte was born on January 24, 1998, in Brazil. His martial arts journey began during his pre-teen years with judo training. Inspired by his cousin, who practiced Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Duarte soon transitioned to BJJ. His first instructor, José Luis—commonly known as "Zé Cavalo"—guided Duarte's foundational development in his hometown.

As Duarte's skills rapidly advanced, he sought higher-level training environments. He began traveling regularly to São Paulo to train at PSLPB under Cicero Costa. Later, Duarte relocated to Bauru, training with Paulo Ledesma, an affiliate of Atos Jiu-Jitsu Academy. In 2016, André Galvão invited Duarte to train at Atos headquarters in San Diego, California, ahead of the UAEJJF Los Angeles Grand Slam. Duarte thrived under Galvão's mentorship, earning his brown belt in 2017 and black belt in 2018—both promotions awarded atop the podium at the IBJJF World Championships. In 2023, Galvão recognized Duarte's competitive and instructional contributions by awarding him his 2nd degree black belt.

Kaynan Duarte first captured mainstream attention by winning the ADCC Rio de Janeiro trials in 2017 as a purple belt. He secured his first ADCC World title in 2019, showcasing his elite grappling skills. Duarte further cemented his dominance at ADCC 2022, achieving an impressive double gold victory in both his weight and absolute divisions. By the close of 2022, Duarte had accumulated four ADCC titles (two weight-class and two absolute), solidifying his status as one of the most accomplished grapplers of his generation.
