Luke Griffith was born on December 27, 2000, in South Africa. Raised in a family deeply rooted in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Griffith began training at age five under his father, Lloyd Griffith, a seasoned black belt practitioner. His foundational skills were further refined by coach Bobby Karagiannidis, who significantly influenced Griffith's early technical development and eventually promoted him to purple belt.

As Griffith progressed, he gravitated toward no-gi grappling, recognizing its dynamic and submission-oriented style. Seeking elite-level instruction, he traveled to Austin, Texas, in November 2021, initially intending to train at Renzo Gracie Academy under renowned coach John Danaher. Impressed by Griffith's talent and potential, Danaher invited him to join his professional athletes' training group at the Roka Training Centre. Following Griffith's participation at ADCC 2022, Danaher promoted him to brown belt. Under Danaher's meticulous mentorship, Griffith continued to evolve technically and strategically, ultimately earning his black belt in April 2025.

Breakthrough at ADCC Trials

Griffith's journey in the prestigious ADCC circuit began with his victory at the ADCC European & African Trials in 2022, securing his spot at the ADCC 2022 World Championships as a purple belt. Competing in the under-99kg division, Griffith demonstrated tactical maturity and technical proficiency, narrowly losing a closely contested decision in the opening round.

Return and Rise to Prominence

Undeterred by the setback, Griffith returned stronger, capturing a second ADCC Trials gold medal in 2023. His persistent dedication culminated in a remarkable performance at the ADCC 2024 World Championships, where he earned a silver medal in the +99kg division, submitting three of his four opponents with precision and efficiency.

Griffith's competitive success extended seamlessly into the International Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Federation (IBJJF) no-gi tournaments. As a brown belt, he dominated the 2023 IBJJF World Jiu-Jitsu No-Gi Championship, securing double gold by winning both his weight class and the absolute division. His consistent performances also earned him multiple IBJJF No-Gi titles, including victories at the Pan and European Championships, solidifying his status as one of the premier no-gi competitors of his generation.

Throughout his career, Griffith has secured several high-profile victories against elite competitors, showcasing his tactical acumen and submission-oriented approach. In 2024, he notably submitted reigning ADCC champion Kaynan Duarte via heel hook at the UFC Fight Pass Invitational 7. Maintaining his momentum, Griffith defeated accomplished grappler Victor Hugo by decision at Who’s Number One 27 in early 2025, further cementing his reputation as a formidable force on the international grappling stage.
