About this video
Defending against an over-under pass:
- Start in the same position with your foot on the opponent's bicep, a De La Riva hook, a deep grip in the collar, and control on the ankle.
- If the opponent circles and steps over, preventing you from getting your lasso, they may attempt an over-under pass. This involves them tripodding up, getting their head deep into your hip, and applying forward pressure with their shoulder into your ribs.
- Before the opponent can fully establish their pressure, push their head to the side. Cup the side of their head and push it all the way over and into your hip. It's crucial to get their face almost touching the mat.
- Once their head is pushed over, slide your hand through and raise your leg over their shoulder in the same way as before.
- To finish, point your fingers up, pull on the collar, and lean back.
This technique requires precise timing to pop the opponent's head over as they make their entry for the over-under pass. If done correctly, it results in a tight choke that can effectively neutralize the pass attempt.
