About this video

Starting from the reverse De La Riva and lasso position, ensure that your grip is tight and clamped down. If your opponent drives in, open your knee slightly and prevent them from wrapping your head with their arm. If they attempt to wrap your head, your situation becomes more difficult, so keep their arm away.

  1. If your opponent pressures in too hard, you can execute a loop choke. However, sometimes your opponent may be more passive and place their knee on the mat.
  2. In this situation, you have the option to spin through their legs if they sit out. Alternatively, you can use the lasso to knock them back onto their butt. If you want to be aggressive, you can let go and grab their knee. But if your goal is to choke rather than sweep, maintain your grip.
  3. Open your knee to the mat, which will cause your opponent to start falling back. If they fall, you can start coming up and passing the guard. However, if they try to pop up aggressively, switch your grip from the sleeve to the collar.
  4. As they pop up, kick your leg through and finish with a choke. Ensure that your forearm is above their head, point your fingers towards the sky, lean back, and finish the choke.
