About this video

Starting from the De La Riva position, with a grip in the collar, foot on the bicep, and control on the ankle, the technique begins. If the opponent starts to circle the foot off the bicep and kill the De La Riva hook, the grip switches from the ankle to the sleeve. As the opponent steps over, a reverse De La Riva hook is put in, and if possible, a lasso is created.

  1. If the timing for the lasso isn't right, the foot can be kept on the opponent's shoulder and worked in slowly.
  2. If the opponent starts to wrap the head, either block the bicep or control the sleeve to keep them at bay.
  3. Opening the knee slightly creates resistance against the opponent's forward drive, making it harder for them to achieve a solid knee cut.
  4. When ready to attack, switch the grip back to the collar. This attack is most effective when the opponent is driving forward, as this momentum can be used to snap their head down.
  5. Kick the leg through and snap the back of the opponent's head down, raising the forearm to set up the loop choke.
  6. The left leg comes up and behind the opponent's shoulder. From here, pull on the collar, point the fingers towards the sky, and lean back to finish the choke.
