About this video
Setting up a loop choke from the De La Riva guard:
- Start by raising your hip and getting a deep De La Riva hook. Bring your foot behind your opponent's knee and lock your legs out.
- If your opponent projects all of their weight to one side, making it difficult to sweep them, adjust your strategy. Bring your right foot out and kick their knee. This should break their posture.
- Once their posture is broken, it's time to set up the loop choke. Reach around, get above their head, raise your leg, and finish with the clamp.
- From the same position, ensure your grip in the collar is nice and deep. Anchor down, controlling their ankle.
- Bring your foot to the hip, stomp down, raise your hips, get your deep De La Riva hook, and bring your other foot in to lock out their knee.
- If your opponent is still projecting all of their weight to one side, come back and kick their knee. It's important to kick low for this to be effective.
- As your opponent starts falling, come back around, grab their head, raise your leg, and finish the choke.
