Anderson Munis was born on July 25, 1995, in Panorama, Brazil — a small interior town where combat sports infrastructure was virtually nonexistent during his formative years. What the town lacked in resources, the Munis family patriarch compensated for through deliberate intention. He made a concerted effort to instill a love of sports and martial arts in all three of his sons — Anderson, elder brother Alex, and younger brother Erich — laying the philosophical groundwork for what would eventually become professional careers in jiu-jitsu.

The opportunity to act on that foundation arrived in 2013, when jiu-jitsu finally reached Panorama under the Equipe Raça banner. Anderson and Erich joined immediately, channeling the competitive drive their upbringing had cultivated. Alex, the eldest, had already taken a parallel path — training at a BJJ club in the nearby city of Três Lagoas, where he was working at the time. That academy held affiliations with both Nova União and Clube Feijão, a connection that would later prove decisive in shaping the trajectory of all three brothers.

As blue belts, Anderson and his brothers made a defining collective decision: to pursue jiu-jitsu not as a hobby, but as a profession. Alex's existing relationship with Clube Feijão opened a door, and the brothers applied for a scholarship at the team's Maringá academy. Their application was accepted, and Anderson and Alex relocated to the training camp, while Erich remained in Panorama to complete his secondary education.

Under the mentorship of Rodrigo Feijão at Clube Feijão, the Munis brothers underwent a remarkable transformation. Athletes who had arrived as unknowns from a small interior town emerged, by the end of their purple belt campaigns, as among the most exciting prospects in Brazilian jiu-jitsu. The results spoke for themselves — but the road was not without hardship. The brothers struggled financially throughout this period, and it was a social media appeal for support to fund travel to an international tournament that altered the course of their careers.

That appeal reached representatives of the newly founded Dream Art project, a professional training center built with a singular focus on developing elite BJJ athletes. Dream Art extended an invitation, and the Munis brothers accepted. The environment proved transformative for Anderson in particular. His game evolved at an accelerated rate, culminating in a defining performance at the World Championships as a brown belt, where he captured double gold. Recognizing his maturity and sustained excellence, Dream Art leaders Isaque Bahiense and Gabriel Figueiró awarded Anderson his black belt on September 28, 2020, in a formal ceremony marking the culmination of years of disciplined development.

In 2023, Anderson — along with Alex and Erich — departed Dream Art and joined Fratres, a local rival academy, signaling a new chapter in his competitive career.

Purple Belt Dominance

Anderson Munis built his reputation through a sustained run of elite performances across the sport's most prestigious circuits. During his purple belt years, he established himself as a dominant force at the highest levels of colored-belt competition. Between 2017 and 2019, he captured IBJJF World Championship gold, IBJJF Pan Championship gold, and IBJJF European Open gold, while claiming back-to-back UAEJJF World Pro titles in 2018 and 2019. His success extended across multiple Grand Slam events, with victories at the UAEJJF Grand Slam in Los Angeles and Rio de Janeiro, and consecutive CBJJ Brazilian Nationals titles spanning his blue (2017) and purple (2018, 2019) belt years.

Brown Belt and the Black Belt Ascent

At brown belt, Anderson maintained that momentum, adding a UAEJJF Grand Slam Los Angeles title and a CBJJE World Championship gold to his record in 2019 — the same year he competed at the Spyder Invitational, further elevating his international profile. His performances across these tournaments cemented his status as one of the most anticipated names in the sport's transition from colored to black belt competition.

The black belt division has only reinforced that standing. In 2021, Anderson claimed victory at Big Deal Pro 3, and in 2024, he reached the summit of the sport's two most prestigious annual events, earning gold at both the IBJJF World Championship and the IBJJF Pan Championship. Competing in the Super-Pesado division (100.50 kg / 222.0 lbs), Anderson Munis demonstrates the rare ability to sustain elite-level performance across every stage of a career.
