Ana Mayordomo Garcia was born in Zaragoza, Spain, in June 2000, spending her first thirteen years there before her family relocated to Denver, Colorado. The transatlantic move planted roots in both worlds — she holds dual Spanish and American citizenship, a biographical detail that would later carry significant strategic weight in her pursuit of ADCC qualification.

She took her first steps on the mat on December 12, 2016, at Easton Training Center in Denver, training under Eliott Marshall. Less than five months later, in April 2017, she entered her first competition. That rapid progression from first class to first tournament set the tempo for a career defined by consistent forward momentum.

For most of her colored belt years, Mayordomo Garcia competed while carrying a full academic load. She completed a full-ride scholarship and earned three bachelor's degrees — in computer science and marketing — in four years, maintaining an active competition schedule throughout. The dual commitment demanded a level of discipline that extended well beyond either pursuit in isolation.

After graduating, she attended a three-week training camp with John Danaher's New Wave group in Austin, Texas, then relocated to Texas to pursue grappling full time — a clear shift in priorities from student-athlete to professional competitor. That transition was interrupted almost immediately. Shortly after arriving in Texas, she sustained injuries in a car crash that kept her off the mats for nearly a year.

The return from that injury marked a defining turning point. When Mayordomo Garcia came back to competition, Eliott Marshall promoted her to black belt on the podium — a moment that recognized not only her competitive results but the resilience she demonstrated in fighting her way back. The arc from scholarship student to full-time grappler, derailed by a serious accident and rebuilt through recovery, forms one of the defining chapters of her career.

Few competitors arrive at black belt with as thorough a record across belt levels as Mayordomo Garcia. Her no-gi results trace a consistent line of gold: she won the IBJJF World Championship No-Gi at blue belt in 2018, took the IBJJF Pan Championship No-Gi at purple belt in 2021, and added another Pan No-Gi title at brown belt in 2024, along with the IBJJF World Championship No-Gi at brown belt in 2022. Gi competition produced its own highlights — a pair of Pan Championship bronze medals at blue belt (2018 and 2019), a bronze at the World Championship gi at blue belt (2018), and a bronze at the World Championship No-Gi at purple belt (2019).

In the final months of 2025, Mayordomo Garcia assembled one of the most compressed and geographically diverse competition runs of her career. The sequence began in Poland, where she won the ADCC European Trials, then continued to Las Vegas for the UFC Fight Pass Invitational. From there she traveled to New York for the 2025 IBJJF Pan Championship No-Gi, claiming gold at featherweight (55 kg), before adding another gold at the IBJJF European Championship No-Gi in Italy. She then returned to the United States to win the ADCC North American East Coast Trials in Orlando.

The five-stop run — Poland, Las Vegas, New York, Italy, Orlando — unfolded across multiple continents within months. It also included a silver medal at the 2025 IBJJF World Championship No-Gi, where she reached the featherweight final before falling to Adele Fornarino in 16 seconds via aoki lock. The result underscored both the quality of her overall run and the competitive depth at the top of the division.

The most structurally unusual aspect of Mayordomo Garcia's 2025 run was what the victories did not produce. Under ADCC women's rules for the 2026 qualification cycle, only winners of the second Trials in each region receive automatic invitations to the main event. First Trials winners — regardless of how many regions they win — do not earn automatic berths.

Mayordomo Garcia won the first Trials in both Europe (Poland) and North America (Orlando), making her the only athlete in the cycle to claim dual-region first Trials victories. Neither win secured her a spot at ADCC 2026. The situation generated widespread public confusion: after the European Trials, many fans assumed she had already qualified; after the North American win, some believed that victories across two regions should guarantee a place, while others were unaware that her dual Spanish-American citizenship allowed her to compete across multiple regions in the first place.

She addressed the situation publicly on Declan Moody's podcast, describing health challenges during the cycle and noting perceived differences in judging standards between competitions — observing that Finnish officials at European events applied stricter criteria for awarding points than she encountered at U.S. events.

In January 2026, Mayordomo Garcia announced plans to enter the ADCC European, Middle East & African Trials scheduled for February 14–15, 2026, in Belgrade, Serbia, at the Belgrade Fair / Aleksandar Nikolic Hall, targeting qualification through the second Trials in that region. Mo Jassim of ADCC North America extended a set of support measures: the number-one seed for the second Trials, along with covered travel and accommodation — benefits Jassim had also applied to the European Trials. Mayordomo Garcia acknowledged the gesture while making clear that seeding and logistical support, however valuable, do not address the underlying structural problem that created the situation.

Mayordomo Garcia's experience navigating the qualification structure gave her firsthand standing to critique it. She has publicly argued that ADCC women's divisions operate with structurally smaller brackets — eight athletes compared to sixteen in the men's divisions — and that the gap fails to reflect the depth of talent at the elite level. In an interview on the Grappling Hour podcast published around August 2026, she stated directly that too many high-level women are competing for too few spots.

Her critique extends beyond raw numbers. She has identified the cascading selection dilemma that small brackets create: prior ADCC champions who did not medal at the most recent championship still merit consideration for the main event, leaving little room for emerging competitors and first-round Trials winners.
