Sheliah Lindsey was born on July 17, 1996, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, into a childhood defined by movement and change. Frequent relocations across the United States — with international stints in Singapore and Cebu in the Philippines — exposed her to a wide range of cultures and experiences, though the instability made it difficult to commit to any single sport for an extended period.

Despite those challenges, Lindsey's natural athleticism surfaced early. She trained in gymnastics as a child, transitioned to taekwondo in her early teens, and took up fencing at various points — each discipline layering onto her physical foundation even without long-term continuity. It was not until she settled in Dallas, Texas at the age of 17 that she finally found the stability needed for consistent athletic development. With roots planted, she turned to Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu — a decision that would define the course of her athletic career.

Upon arriving in Dallas, Lindsey began training at the Magness Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Academy under Michael Magness. She adapted to the sport quickly, and what began as a new athletic pursuit grew into a deep competitive commitment. Lindsey gravitated toward the no-gi ruleset in particular, finding its dynamic, submission-focused format ideally suited to her aggressive, athletic style.

Her background in gymnastics and taekwondo translated meaningfully to the mats, sharpening her body awareness, coordination, and physical conditioning. What set her apart, however, was her work ethic. Within the Magness BJJ community, she became known for training seven days a week with multiple sessions per day — a level of dedication that accelerated her technical development at a remarkable pace.

That commitment produced undeniable results. In 2021, after six and a half years of training, Michael Magness promoted Lindsey to black belt — a notably fast progression through the ranks that reflected both her talent and her relentless approach to the craft. The promotion coincided with her first major IBJJF no-gi victories, making 2021 a genuine breakout year in her competitive journey.

Building a Reputation on the Submission Circuit

Lindsey built her reputation primarily through submission-only events — most notably Fight 2 Win and Midwest Finishers — where her finishing instincts and physical attributes allowed her to thrive. Her ability to impose a fast-paced, submission-driven game made her a consistent threat at the lightweight level and established her as one of the top no-gi grapplers in North America.

IBJJF No-Gi Success

Her competitive footprint extended to the IBJJF no-gi circuit, where she collected titles across multiple events. In 2021, she claimed gold at the IBJJF Houston Open NOGI and followed with an absolute title at the IBJJF Chicago Summer NOGI — demonstrating her ability to compete effectively across weight categories. In 2022, she added a victory at the 2022 IBJJF Austin Summer Open NOGI and delivered dominant performances at Midwest Finishers, winning gold at both the 135 lbs and 145 lbs weight classes. Those results underscored her versatility and physical dominance at the lightweight level.

Competing primarily in the Peso Leve division (64 kg / 141.5 lbs) on the IBJJF circuit, Lindsey operates as a consistent podium presence across North American grappling events. Representing Magness BJJ, she has carved out a distinct identity as a submission-focused, high-output competitor whose rise through the sport reflects both exceptional natural ability and an unrelenting approach to training.
