About this video

This technique is a modified version of the flower sweep, which can be executed from the tie-down position. The technique is highly efficient and requires less force, making it a great option when you're tired or hurt. It involves using angles effectively and feeling your opponent's weight to sweep them as they try to adjust or come up.

  1. Start by getting into the cruise control position. This can be achieved off of an omoplata attack. As you start to attack an omoplata, immediately give yourself cruise control.
  2. When your opponent stacks, slip, control the shoulder, and hip escape until you feel comfortable.
  3. Use the hand that's inside for the cruise control and the blade on your forearm to twist your opponent's head. Twist their head and pull on their shoulder, pulling over your right shoulder.
  4. Once you're in position, your hips and legs become a rocking chair. Your feet should be connected to your opponent's hips, making it difficult for them to scramble.
  5. From here, you can hug their arm and come into a tight mount. Be wary of your opponent trying to recover half guard on the far side. Squeeze your knees, hug the head, and maintain heavy pressure to complete the sweep.
  6. Once you've completed the sweep, spread out to bring your weight down. This puts you in a great position for a head and arm triangle situation.

It's important to note that you want to be clamping your opponent sideways and be perpendicular to them. If their chest is facing you, the technique will not work as desired. Your hips, legs, and heels and feet should be connected to their hips. All you want in your direction is their shoulder, side of the body, and side of the hip.
