About this video
When your opponent has a strong base and quickly re-centers in the guard, you can use the Lapel Tie-Down Cross Choke technique:
- As your opponent re-centers, the hand that was going under to cut comes back into the guard, continues all the way, turns palm up, and grabs the lapel. This creates a baseball grip on the lapel, two on one.
- Once you have the grip, bring your opponent closer to you. Your elbow goes to their chest, and you use your knees to bring them over your shoulder.
- With the two on one grip on the lapel, you can keep creeping up to the neck. Any time your opponent tries to posture, get close to them. It's hard for them to posture with a two on one.
- When you're deep enough that the hand that's choking is grinding on their neck, free the forehand and track until you get some fabric. Grab the crease.
- Both of your elbows go down to your hips. You can now do the tie down.
- Your opponent may not feel any danger at this point. The moment they move in, you can execute the choke.
- If your opponent backs off, come up with them, stay close, and keep creeping, pushing them back. It's hard for them to create space.
- Track the same lapel on the other side with your free hand. Change your head position to the other side of the head, and bring your elbows to your hips for a super tight choke.
Remember to play with it and discover the distance where you can be effective. Find the right places where you squeeze. The technique should not be hard, but rather a matter of finding the right positioning and timing.
