About this video

The video demonstrates an elbow lock from the cruise control position in the closed guard. Here's how to execute it:

  1. Start in the closed guard. Be aware of your opponent's weight and distance to execute the technique at the right time.
  2. When your opponent attempts to stack, control their movement. The cruise control position works like a steering wheel, allowing you to move your opponent by opening their elbow and separating it from their body.
  3. Use the 45-degree angle to your benefit. Maintain control of the belt and tricep. As your opponent attempts to stack, slip up and reach over to get shoulder control.
  4. Your bottom leg should connect on their hip, and your top leg should come over their back, digging your heel into their clavicle. Squeeze everything once you're in this position.
  5. With your free hand, grab the pinky side of their wrist, turn it, and bring it into you. As you do this, extend your hips. This prevents your opponent from posturing back up.
  6. If your opponent manages to take their arm out, they will likely fall into a triangle, which you can transition into.
  7. Keep your heel on your opponent to monitor their movement. This acts as a sensor, telling you where they are.
  8. Break your opponent down at a 45-degree angle. Grab the fabric on top of their shoulder with the hand that's controlling the cruise control.
  9. Bring your free leg over and dig in. Squeeze and expose their arm. Grab it, twist, and bring it to you. Ensure their elbow is in the pocket, on the floor. This gives you control of their shoulder.
  10. Finally, twist, squeeze, and extend your hips to execute the elbow lock.
