About this video
The Elbow Tuck Sweep is a technique that can be used when your opponent forces you into an open guard from a closed guard position. Here's how to execute it:
- Start from an armbar position. If your opponent is heavy and too close for comfort, push them away to create an angle.
- Prepare to execute slip number 2, which involves a hand push. Open your guard and push your opponent away.
- Keep your grip and immediately frame, posting on your elbow and hand. You can still keep your guard closed at this point.
- Your opponent will likely want to return into your guard. When they do, come inside and put your elbow inside of their bicep, effectively trapping them.
- With your opponent's left side under your control, wait for them to react. They will likely want to attack and pass, at which point you simply fall back, keeping the grip and completing the sweep.
- Once your elbow and hand are posted, you can immediately start to fish. As soon as you open your guard, your opponent will likely try to re-center themselves into your guard or back out a little. At this point, your elbow should be pinching their arm.
- Use a rocking motion as you fall back, keeping control of their sleeve. Finish tight on top of your opponent.
- After the sweep, you can immediately transition to a double unders control, which allows you to achieve mount by smashing your opponent.
