About this video
This technique is a combination of an attack sequence and a sweep, specifically a six-point sweep, from the closed guard position. The sequence begins with an attempted choke, which if defended or unsuccessful, transitions into a sweep situation.
- Start in the closed guard position, attempting a choke. If the opponent defends or the choke is unsuccessful, prepare to transition into a sweep.
- If the opponent blocks your hand from securing the choke, reach for the sleeve of the blocking hand.
- With one motion, pull both the sleeve and the lapel. This will off-balance the opponent and create an opportunity for a sweep.
- Base off and aim to get a high mount to prevent the opponent from exploding out of the position.
- From the high mount, secure the lapel and cup the back of the opponent's head, tying them down. If the opponent comes into you, you will be able to sweep.
- If the opponent tries to back off or create space, use this opportunity to escape and look for the choke again.
- If the opponent blocks your hand again, grab the sleeve and pull both the sleeve and the lapel, rolling onto your knee and shoulder.
- From this position, the opponent will struggle to regain their balance. Maintain control of the sleeve and the lapel, and roll to secure a high mount.
- Once in the high mount, you can continue to control the opponent using the lapel behind their head and your legs.
Remember, the key to this technique is to pull the lapel and the sleeve at the same time, and then roll over onto your knee and shoulder as a pivot. This will prevent you from flying around or floating, and will ensure a successful sweep.
