About this video
Executing the Rafa gator roll begins with securing an arm drag and escaping to the side, pinning the opponent's arm to the floor. As you drop down to finish the arm-in guillotine, the opponent may drop their butt to the side and frame against your hip to prevent you from getting on top, while also lifting your leg with a hook to block your base.
- Start by fencing for the opponent's wrist, turning their palm up, and pushing their hand to the side.
- Reach for their triceps and pass their arm past your body, meeting shoulder-to-shoulder.
- Keep your head down, hand to the floor, and slide your foot underneath your butt.
- Slide your right hook over to the opponent's other leg and pull them towards you to pin their arms to the ground.
- As you move for the guillotine and the opponent retreats, point your elbow in and roll sideways, looking towards their opposite shoulder.
- Bridge your feet and hips up and over, looking at the opponent's hips, not the ceiling, to maintain the correct trajectory.
- Remove your hand, pull your elbow back, and posture up to secure the guillotine tightly.
- Practice the movement with a partner, focusing on holding their chin and looking in the direction of the roll to ensure proper execution.
It's crucial to practice this rollover to achieve fluidity and precision, making it an effective tool in your Jiu-Jitsu arsenal, especially against high-level opponents.
