About this video

Guillotine counter to an opponent's single to double leg takedown attempt:

  1. When the opponent secures a single leg, immediately reach underneath and grab their shoulder to elevate their chin.
  2. Hop to the outside to position for a half guard guillotine as the opponent tries to switch to a double leg.
  3. Ensure your leg jumps over theirs to prevent guard passing and maintain control of their neck to block the De La Riva (DLR) guard.
  4. As the opponent passes their head to the outside, secure the guillotine grip and walk them down to a standing half guard position.
  5. Control the landing, either with a guard jump or pull, to avoid being taken down and potentially losing the guillotine grip.
  6. When the opponent snatches the single leg, block their chin and give the impression that a double leg takedown is available.
  7. Secure the opponent's neck and jump, placing your chin in their back, to set up the guillotine.
  8. Execute the same arm-in guillotine as practiced in previous modules, returning to a familiar 'home base' position.
  9. Lift the opponent with your elbow as you block their chin, making them want to pass their head to the outside.
  10. As the opponent lifts your leg, frame their neck to make it difficult for them to finish the single leg and encourage the switch to a double leg.
  11. At the moment they switch, jump to guard with your leg over their back, secure the inside hook behind the elbow, and finish the submission.
