About this video

Initiate the technique from a sitting guard by establishing hooks. Secure the opponent's hand using a thumb and middle finger grip to turn their palm up, blocking their ability to underhook and preventing a smash pass.

  1. Motion the opponent's hand to the side to reach for their triceps, pulling their arm across your body.
  2. Slide your left foot towards your buttocks and move your right hook across to the opposite side of the opponent's body.
  3. Ensure your arm lands on top of the opponent's to prevent them from retracting their arm or countering with an arm drag.
  4. Posture up and, instead of pursuing top position, transition down to the guillotine choke.
  5. Identify the visual cue for when to reach for the opponent's chin and turn, using your body to block their arm and hip to set up the guillotine.
  6. Grab your fingers with your hand to make a connection for the guillotine, using your wrist to apply pressure into the opponent's neck.
  7. Execute a scooping motion with your elbow under the opponent's body while lifting your wrist up to tighten the choke.
  8. As you pull the opponent's hip towards you, posture up and secure a cupping guillotine grip with one hand.
  9. Slide your buttocks to the side, hook your inside leg, and use your outside leg to block the opponent's body.
  10. Pass your hand through the opponent's armpit to grab your fingers, positioning your wrist against their neck.
  11. Slide your elbow across the floor to amplify the choke, focusing on the lifting motion rather than just squeezing.

This technique emphasizes the importance of using the wrist and elbow movements to apply the guillotine choke effectively, rather than relying solely on squeezing.
