About this video
Executing a guillotine choke from the half guard involves maintaining pressure and control. Begin with both knees on the ground and on your toes to ensure stability and pressure. Block your opponent's biceps to prevent them from controlling the distance and circle your hand to drop your elbow to the mat, preventing them from regaining bicep control.
Encourage your opponent to move their elbow out by baiting them to get up on their elbow, exposing their neck for the guillotine. If they don't take the bait, proceed to attack regardless. Slide your knee into their hip, maintaining your balance by staying on your toes and not placing your feet flat on the mat.
With one hand on the opponent's bicep, use it to push and slide into position for the guillotine. Reach for the choke with a flat hand, placing your thumb between your pectoral muscles. This creates a one-arm guillotine with your arm and chest compressing the opponent's neck.
To secure the choke, hunch your back slightly and slide your thumb up between your clavicles. Lean into your opponent, applying pressure with your chest against your hand for a tight submission. Keep your elbow on the ground for balance and remain on your toes in a tripod position for leverage.
Ensure your hand is flat against your body, not in a fist, to minimize space and maximize tightness. Focus your gaze on your opponent's hips to maintain balance and prevent being toppled over. If the opportunity arises, you can also secure an underhook to strengthen the submission.
If your opponent attempts to fight their hands underneath, block their arm. You can transition to an arm-in guillotine if necessary, ensuring a tight squeeze for the finish. Remember to keep the grip tight throughout the execution of the technique.
