Elijah Dorsey

Elijah Dorsey was born on September 9, 2001, in Annapolis, Maryland, and raised in Upper Marlboro. Throughout his youth, Dorsey immersed himself in a variety of sports—football, baseball, basketball, and track—developing athleticism and competitive instincts. His first encounter with martial arts occurred at age six during a summer camp, where he was introduced to Muay Thai and foundational self-defense principles. This early exposure to striking and grappling concepts ignited his passion for combat sports and laid the groundwork for his future in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.

Dorsey's formal Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu journey began when he joined Team Lloyd Irvin as a child. At seven, he entered Donald Achnick’s jiu-jitsu class, progressing through the academy’s kids program under the mentorship of both Achnick and Lloyd Irvin.

Technical Growth and Competitive Mindset

From the outset, Dorsey displayed exceptional technical aptitude and discipline. His training emphasized positional control, transitions, and submission awareness—skills that became hallmarks of his style. Rapid advancement through the colored belt ranks reflected both his tournament results and his analytical approach to problem-solving on the mat. Dorsey’s standout performances at major events culminated in his promotion to black belt in June 2022, a testament to his dedication and competitive excellence.

At 19, Dorsey made the strategic decision to pursue Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu professionally, a path shaped by introspection during the COVID-19 pandemic. Representing Team Lloyd Irvin, he competed in major IBJJF and ADCC events, quickly earning a reputation as one of the sport’s most promising prospects. His technical game, marked by calculated guard passing and dynamic submissions, consistently challenged elite opponents.

As of July 22, 2025, Dorsey joined Team Misfits Americas as the under 88kg representative for CJI 2. This move expanded his reach on the international stage and positioned him among a new cadre of high-level athletes, further sharpening his competitive edge.

Dorsey’s colored belt career featured multiple IBJJF World and Pan American titles, underscoring his ability to perform under pressure. His momentum continued with a breakthrough victory at the ADCC East Coast Trials in 2023, where he secured the ADCC Trials winner distinction—a highlight discussed during his appearance on JitsCast #25.

In April 2025, Dorsey prepared to enter the highly anticipated middleweight bracket at BJJ Stars 15 (2025). His ongoing commitment to testing himself against world-class opposition reflects both his tactical mindset and relentless pursuit of excellence.
