About this video
Addressing a situation where the opponent is very heavy and puts all their weight on one leg, making it difficult to create space for inversions, back takes, or sweeps:
- Attempt to lift the opponent to create space, but if they are too heavy and it's not possible to lift them further, keep your leg extended.
- Place one hand at the height of the opponent's knee while simultaneously bringing your head inside to prevent them from wrapping your head, as you will need this hand for knee control.
- After trying to lift the opponent and finding them too heavy, switch your grip to their pants and start entering.
- If you can't invert due to their weight, pull your head inside and use the grip on the knee to lift them as you reach halfway through the inversion.
- Continue to apply pressure with your chest and grip, lifting and posturing up, landing in a favorable position.
- When the opponent is very heavy and realizes you want to go underneath, they may put all their weight on the leg you're trying to control. After pulling and creating a small amount of space, keep your leg extended, but it's unlikely you'll be able to fully invert.
- As you place your hand on the knee and look for the grip, move your head accordingly to avoid their embrace and to make it more difficult for them to control your position.
- Hold at the height of the knee, pull, and help your head and body move slightly inside.
- If you can't invert due to their weight, lift their leg and continue kicking, rising, and changing position.
- Use your foot on the mat to rise quickly and avoid falling into a lasso or closed guard, while controlling their leg.
