About this video
Second variation of the knee bar roll when the opponent is trying to pass by putting more weight on their leg:
- Apply pressure with your weight to gain balance on your head and shoulder while maintaining a hand-to-hand grip.
- As you begin to roll, throw your leg out and lift your hips.
- Slide the hand that was on top around to the opponent's shin and heel. If you need assistance, use the other hand, but keep the first hand in control because you need to control their leg close to you to prevent them from escaping their hips.
- As you rise, control the leg near you, likely falling into your inverted guard and completing the sweep.
- For the variation, instead of pulling the opponent in, you push them away. The opponent will typically try to put more weight on the leg they are trying to pass with, making it difficult to make them roll.
- Keep the hand-to-hand grip but slide from behind the knee to the heel. As you throw your leg out, balance your weight on your head and shoulder, lifting your hips.
- You can use your hand to assist in lifting, but it's better to switch hands to maintain control of the leg near your chest.
- Pull and control the space to prevent the opponent from placing their leg on the ground, escaping their hips, or taking your back, thus avoiding the sweep.
- Finish by falling into your inverted guard and completing the sweep.
