About this video
Executing the Push Back Sweep from the guard involves anticipating the opponent's reactions to maintain an advantage. Begin by pulling the collar and bringing the opponent forward, setting up for an inversion. As the opponent defends by hugging the hips and placing a knee on the ground to prevent the turn, initiate the helicopter motion.
- Start by pulling the collar to bring the opponent up, as with all previously discussed positions, to find space for the inversion.
- Keep the hips high and bring the knee close. If the opponent defends by hugging the hips and placing their knee on the ground, proceed as if attempting the first helicopter sweep.
- When the opponent adjusts their posture to defend the helicopter sweep by shifting weight to their hips, attempt to sweep them forward.
- If the opponent posts to prevent the forward sweep, use the leg that was acting as a pendulum to push on their chest.
- Simultaneously kick their knee back and roll over the shoulder while pulling on the grips.
- Use the head on the ground to help gain balance to come up, while continuing to pull on the opponent's leg to prevent them from escaping.
- Secure the leg to prevent the opponent from escaping the knee and transition into the inverted half guard.
This technique is a variation of the helicopter sweep, requiring quick reaction to counter the opponent's defenses and maintain a step ahead.
