About this video

Execute a spinning reversal when the opponent attempts to counter your back take by sitting down. Begin by maintaining foot control and sliding your leg behind the opponent's leg, keeping your shin behind their knee. Place the foot that was on their hip onto the mat with your toes, gaining traction to rise.

  1. Point your knee diagonally outward to prevent the opponent from opening their leg and establishing a strong guard as you ascend.
  2. Continue pulling up, applying pressure with your shin and knee on the mat.
  3. Bring your hand behind the opponent's head, placing your shoulder on their face to maintain pressure during the pass.
  4. Slide your hip close to theirs, keeping your toes connected to the mat for continuous traction.
  5. From the same guard, keep your arm active and grip the collar to pull explosively, kicking the opponent upward and diagonally to create space.
  6. Use the hand that was hugging the knee to control the space. If you rotate without protecting with this arm, the opponent can reapply their weight.
  7. As you spin, bring your knee close and your foot to the opponent's hip, grabbing their pants.
  8. If the opponent starts to defend by sitting and moving their hip away, maintain your grip and place your shin behind their knee.
  9. While switching your shin behind their knee, move your foot back with your toes on the mat to gain traction and rise quickly.
  10. As you ascend, direct your knee diagonally to the ground to apply pressure and prevent the opponent from opening to a guard or countering the sweep.
  11. Continue to apply pressure with your shoulder and embrace the head as you slide, not jumping, to finalize the position.
