About this video

Establishing a strong position from the seated guard involves anticipating the opponent's attempt to pass with one leg forward and one back. As the opponent steps forward, you must react aggressively by placing your hand behind their knee. Simultaneously, turn inward, sliding your hip slightly inside and rotating your torso to keep your body closed and protect your head from being embraced, which would compromise your position.

  1. Start in a seated butterfly guard with elbows closed to maintain a solid defensive posture.
  2. As the opponent tries to pass your guard, likely stepping one leg forward, anticipate their movement.
  3. Enter by placing your arm behind their knee, hugging your own knee, and being mindful to protect your hand from grips, Kimuras, or head control.
  4. Quickly establish your position and secure a hook behind their backside, keeping your body tightly closed and turned inward.
