About this video
Executing a tripod sweep from the Reverse De La Riva position involves the following steps:
- Start with the top foot on the opponent's hip and the Reverse De La Riva hook in place while gripping their ankle.
- Lift the hips using the top foot and hook the opponent's far ankle.
- Pull on the ankle while driving with the foot on the hip to execute the sweep, causing the opponent to fall.
- Before the opponent's butt hits the mat, reinsert the Reverse De La Riva hook.
- Use the hook to turn the knee, which allows for getting on top and ending up in the same position but with reversed roles.
- Anticipate that a skilled opponent will pop back up; use their momentum to help spin into the same position with all the same options available.
- If the opponent is tall or has a wide base, making it difficult to reach their far leg, lift the hips and hook behind their far ankle or knee instead.
- Extend with the foot on the hip while pulling with the hand on the ankle to knock the opponent back, reinserting the Reverse De La Riva hook as they fall.
- Drive the opponent's knee towards the mat with the hook to come on top.
- When the opponent attempts to come back on top after being swept, use the opportunity to spin and explore the same options from the new position.
