About this video
When an opponent deals with the Reverse De La Riva by kneeling and underhooking the top leg, it's challenging to spin for control. To counter this:
- Maintain space and control the distance using one hand on the opponent's shoulder and the other inside their bicep.
- Upon noticing a bend in the opponent's elbow, place one hand on their head and underhook the arm.
- Pass the leg over the opponent's head while gripping their arm, curling the hand in and lifting with the elbow to create a Kimura-like grip.
- Lock hands palm to palm with the elbow close to the chest after the leg passes over the head.
- Ensure the top leg goes through to the opponent's hip, extending away and placing the foot inside, then come onto the shoulder.
- As the arm pops out, control the thumb, squeeze the knees together, and secure the armbar finish.
This technique provides a powerful armbar finish when the opponent attempts to control the leg in the Reverse De La Riva position.
