About this video

Offensive variation of Outside Ashi Garami to address common defensive measures:

  1. When the opponent hides their heel and positions their knee outside the line of their ankle and hip, maintain the lock on their leg and keep your elbows in to prevent them from securing a head and arm position.
  2. Keep your legs locked to avoid the opponent's leg weave and maintain distance with your legs to prevent them from smashing you.
  3. Place one foot on the opponent's hip and use your hands to nurse it into position, crossing the outside foot over the inside foot on the hip.
  4. Use both legs to leg press the opponent off, which exposes their heel for an attack.
  5. Keep your elbows tight and use the leg press to force the opponent's knee inside the line of their ankle and hip, making it impossible for them to hide their heel.
  6. Secure the heel with the same grip as before, ensuring the pinky toe tendon is exposed for an effective heel hook.
  7. Finish the heel hook in this position or transition to a back healing position for more control and finishing options.
  8. Resist the urge to unlock your legs when feeling pressure, as keeping them locked is crucial for setting up the attack.
  9. Use movement and timing to get your foot on the hip, and if necessary, hand assist to adjust your position.
  10. If the opponent rolls, maintain foot position to keep control and continue applying the heel hook with proper mechanics.

This technique provides a solution to the problem of an opponent smashing your Outside Ashi Garami and hiding their heel, turning a defensive position into an offensive opportunity.
