About this video
When countering outside Ashi Garami with a grip break, the direction of the opponent's toes is significant. It is preferable to point the opponent's toes outward. This orientation not only facilitates a few other counters but also sets up a dominant position for the practitioner. While the immediate concern is to ensure that you're pushing on the opponent's stomach, for long-term control and to set up subsequent moves, the toes should be directed outward.
